History

The story of Volley Club Portorož from founding to beach specialisation.

1. 1991

   Beginnings in Lucija

   The club starts in a small Lucija school gym. First matches in the 3rd national league at the Piran stadium.

2. 1992

   First beach court

   With Okolje Piran we build the first court on Portorož beach and host the first national championship in independent Slovenia.

3. 1993/94

   Indoor rise

   After the Prvačina match we reach the 2nd national league. Later a 3rd place finish and 5th at the youth nationals; Slovenian Cup appearances.

4. 1990s–2000s

   Beach hub

   Second and third courts, lighting, stands. National, international and recreational events. Portorož becomes Slovenia’s key beach centre. European Championships, World Championship qualifiers in Lignano; Bernardin court.

5. Today

   Four modern courts

   With the Municipality of Piran, Okolje Piran and ŠMC Piran — four FIVB/CEV-standard courts. Beach focus since 2008; indoor as winter complement. Long-term wish: an indoor sand hall for year-round training.
